Germany 2006
Logo
The slogan “time to make friends” is articulated graphically in an identity portraying emotions of joy and exuberance. Two of the faces are formed from a “06.” The theme reflects our increasingly connected planet and embodies the higher aspirations of the game to bring people together.
Mascots • Goleo VI and Pille
2006 saw the return of the lion, this time wearing a Germany shirt with the number 06 and no pants! He also had a talking football named Pille. Goleo is a portmanteau of the words "goal" and "leo", the Latin word for lion, while "Pille" is a colloquial term for a football in Germany.
Poster
Franz Beckenbauer was on hand to unveil this poster, which was designed by Berlin agency WE DO Communication. It beat four other posters to win the official accolade in a poll run across Germany. With stars forming a ball in the night sky, it plays on the notions of wishing and dreaming.
Ball • +Teamgeist
A radically new configuration reduced the amount of panel touch points forming a smooth and perfectly round exterior that improved accuracy and control. The revolutionary propeller design of the Teamgeist minimized corners and created a smoother surface for improved play. The ball was designed with traditional colors of the German flag and was accentuated with the golden color of the World Cup trophy.
