Contemporary graphic articulation of the World Cup trophy itself evokes multiple meanings; unity between host nations, forward movement, the literal inbounding of a ball.

Mascots • Ato, Kaz and Nik

This was the first tournament to have more than one mascot, in fact they had three. Ato, Kaz and Nik were orange, purple and blue futuristic, computer-generated creatures. They also had their own sport - "Atmoball" (a fictional football-like sport). The three names were voted for online and at McDonald's outlets in the host countries.

Poster

Because the tournament was to be hosted by two nations, FIFA called on one calligrapher from each to collaborate to create the poster. Byun Choo Suk (Korea) and Hirano Sogen (Japan) spent two days making various football-related brush strokes. The best ones were scanned and put together for this composition.

Ball • Fevernova

For FIFA World Cup Korea Japan, 2002, Adidas created a new ball made up of thicker inner layers to increase the accuracy of the ball in flight. Fevernova included a refined syntactic foam layer that allowed for more precise and predictable flight path. Asian culture inspired the revolutionary colorful look.
