A story about the city and citizens against a backdrop of the disaster

Hi! Today, I want to tell you about this book: Manchester’s Finest by David Hall.

This book is not about the disaster and victims in details. Mainly, this book is about the city and citizens, their grief and hopes, feelings and anxieties, solidarity and empathy.

Of course, there are many pages about the Munich tragedy, Matt Busby and the boys who were treated in the hospital, about first matches of Bill Foulkes, Bobby Charlton, Harry Gregg and others after that awful event, about a row of funerals, and so forth, but this information is given as a part of the global picture. How did people perceive news about the disaster? What kind of conversations were there between them? Did they believe Manchester United would be able to survive? What was happening at the club?

Also, you can dive into the English life of those years. Factories, chimneys, smog... Personal TV as a sign of family well-being... It was very interesting and sometimes unusual for me, a Russian guy.

And yes, as I said, I'm from Russia, and this text was not very difficult for me, despite the fact that I continue to learn English. Special thanks to the author for this!
