ISU 4 Continents Figure Skating Championships Opened in Seoul Amid Coronavirus Outbreak

It's a big figure skating competition season in Korea as ISU Four Continents Championships has opened on February 4th amid novel coronavirus outbreak  with world-stars like Hanyu, Duhamel, Hikira attending.

As of today 427 patients with Wuhan pneumonia died globally, more than 20 thousand infected. In Korea there are 16 confirmed cases. But that didn't stop figure skaters and their fans from attending this yearly competition held at Waikiki Mokdong ice rink in Seoul.  "Elderly and children are not recommended to visit venues", says official Championships website.

However, some athletes even brought toddlers to Seoul which is one of the cities with closest transportation ties n biggest outbound travel to Wuhan - epicenter of the outbreak. Olympic and world champion Canadian Meagan Duhamel posted her photo with a baby on the plane to Seoul on her account in Instagram Meagan Duhamel   with a caption: "Here we go! Zoey’s first big trip! It’s stressful and anxious for mom but so far Zoey seems comfy and content". Her fans and supporters wished her a success and a safe trip. During the crisis it seems like sky is falling, but eventually it is not end of the world. Figure skating is more important!

Несмотря на вспышку коронавируса, Чемпионат 4х континентов по фигурному катанию все-таки открылся 4 февраля на катке стадиона Мокдон, что на западе Сеула. Эти соревнования - аналог Чемпионата Европы, своего рода Чемпионат среди неевропейских стран для Африки, обеих Америк, Азии и Океании. Проводится ежегодно с 1999 года. Традиционно доминировали на нем Япония, США, Канада и Китай. Другие участники- призеры - Южная Корея, Узбекистан, Казахстан, КНДР. 

Среди звезд-победителей и медалистов этого престижного турнира были такие спортсмены, как Ким Ена, Юзуру Ханю, Денис Тен, Мао Асада. На сайте 1го канала с 6 по 9 февраля можно просматривать соревнования среди мужчин, женщин, в парном катании и танцах на льду. На этот раз в Чемпионате 4-х континентов за медали будут сражаться фигуристы из США, Австралии, Канады, Японии, КНР, Тайваня, Гонконга, Таиланда, Казахстана, Мексики и Филиппин. 

В Сеуле свои чемпионские звания будут защищать Шома Уно (Япония) - среди мужчин, Рика Хикира (Япония) - среди женщин (Япония) , Су Венчжин и Хан Конг (КНР) в парном катании, Мэдисон Чок и Эван Бэйтс (США) - в танцах на льду.
