"2011 Pyeongchang Skijumping FIS Continental Cup, an event held by International Ski Federation (FIS) and Korea Ski Association (KSA), will open in January 12-13, 2011 at Alpensia Resort Skijumping Tower in Pyeongchang in Gangwon Province, Korea. The event, sponsored by Gangwon Province, Pyeongchang, and Korea Sports Promotion Foundation(KSPF), is very important as it is the first international winter sports competition that will be held in Korea before the winning bid of the 2018 Winter Olympics will be announced. Pyeongchang is a candidate city of the 2018 Winter Olympics with Annecy and Munchen, and the hosting city will be decided on July 6, 2011.
2011 Pyeongchang Skijumping FIS Continental Cup is an official IOC event held in Pyeongchang, so the event is crucial to the city on winning the Olympic bid. In this competition, 50 athletes from 13 countries including Korean skijumpers Heung-chul Choi, Yong-jik Choi, Hyun-gi Kim, and Chil-gu Kang (High1) will compete in K-125 Hill Size 140m skijumping, and approximately total 200 people (athletes, executives and judges) will be involved.
2011 Pyeongchang Skijumping FIS Continental Cup will be the second event ever to be held in Alpensia Resort which is scheduled to be the main stadium of the 2018 Olympic Games if Pyeongchang wins the bid next year. Alpensia Resort is a well known international sports facility that had successfully opened global athletic events in the past such as the 2008 Biathlon World Cup, 2009 Biathlon World Cup, and 2009 Pyeongchang Skijumping FIS Continental Cup.
The organizing committee of the event declared that 2011 Pyeongchang Skijumping FIS Continental Cup will help show the world that Pyeongchang has a strong will and capability to host the 2018 Winter Olympics, and welcomes all skiijumpers , officials, and fans to Pyeongchang, Korea."
