Nikolay Nerush resigns as head coach of Russia rugby team

Head coach of the Russian national rugby team Nikolay Nerush resigned from his position after the last match of the World Cup group stage against Australia, according to RIA Novosti.

Nerush, who has been in charge of the team for three years, announced his decision to the players before the game against the Australians. Under him Russia qualified to the World Cup for first time in their history, finishing second in the European qualifying tournament.

At the 2011 World Cup in New Zealand the Russians suffered four defeats in group stage, losing to the USA (6:13), Italy (17:53), Ireland (12:62), and Australian (22:68).
