Anand and Gelfand to contend for chess crown in Moscow
The match for the world chess championship between the current holder of the title, India’s Viswanathan Anand, and the candidate, Israel’s Boris Gelfand, will be held in Moscow in May 2012, according to the press release of the Russian Chess Federation. Besides the Russian capital Indian city of Chennai also applied for the right to host the event.
The prize money of the Anand vs. Gelfand match will make $2.55 million. Gelfand has acquired the right to contend against Anand by winning the candidates’ tournament in Kazan.
Moscow hosted accepted the world championship match 26 years ago when Anatoly Karpov played against Garri Kasparov.
