Evgeni Plushenko will undergo minor back surgery and change his choreographer
Olympic champion Evgeni Plushenko has revealed that he will have to undergo a back surgery and has stated he had changed his choreographer.
«I’ve had a powerful cramp in my back. Now I need a minor surgery. They will insert catheters in my back and cauterise a nerve. It’s not some kind of good news for me and my fans. But I think it’s better to do everything now, so nothing would disturb me during the season. Then I’d skate diligently, qualitatively, without any injuries for the next three years.
«The main thing for me is to be healthy. I have a power of will, a strong character, a dream, a desire to win, and to please the audience again... I’d like to change the stereotype of the figure skaters so that they could skate much longer, instead of retiring at 20. I’d like them to develop themselves and make up new programs, show new ideas to the people. I would like to change figure skating and be included into the Guinness Book of Records as a quite good sportsman, having taken part in the Sochi Olympics.
«I understand that it will be very difficult to achieve the results I had, but I want to try. Perhaps, the first season will not be very successful – you have to spoil before you spin, as they say. Or, maybe, it will click right from the start. At least we have already found the ideas for the short program and free skating. I’m working with new choreographers, but, of course, I haven’t forgotten my old friend David Avdysh. This year we will be collaborating with the great figure skater Kurt Browning,» stated Plushenko in an interview with Komsomolskaya Pravda.
It should be noted that one of these days Plushenko also underwent a knee surgery.
