Petri Vehanen: Maybe the KHL conferences need to be reshuffled, so East is stronger than the West
Finnish goaltender Petri Vehanen, currently in Ak Bars, shared his thoughts on the current KHL format and the potential changes that could be introduced into the league.
«The decision not to divide teams in the play-offs according to the conference is a smart one. Perhaps the KHL needs to reshuffle the conferences, so that the teams in the East are slightly stronger than in the West. Just imagine if one of the Western teams is drawn against Amur Khabarovsk – the long-distance travelling will be devastating to both sides,» the Finnish veteran mused.
The 35-year old also talked about the intrigue in the KHL this season:
«The season was very curious. A few underdogs came to prominence, Traktor, for one. Ak Bars and Salavat Yulaev have been struggling during some periods, but it definitely has not been boring. Anything but boring. It’s my third season in the KHL and every year the competition becomes more competitive and exciting. You just cannot predict, what will happen in the play-offs,» Vehanen added.
