Oleg Protasov steps down as Rostov head coach
Oleg Protasov has officially resigned as head coach of the Russian Premier League club Rostov Rostov-on-Don.
The Ukrainian coach handed in his resignation after Rostov’s defeat in the Russian Cup semifinal at the hands of Alania Vladikavkaz (0:0, 5:6 on penalties). His request has been considered by the government of the Rostov Region, who owns and finances the club, as well the club’s management. According to the club’s official website, today Protasov resignation was accepted.
Protasov himself refused to explain his resignation. «The are several reasons for that. The main one is being defeated by Alania. I wanted to win this game very much. It was important both for me and the team and the fans. We failed… I would’t like to disclose the other reasons. I will leave them to myself. I wish Rostov good luck and success,» said Protasov to Sport-Express. «Now I need to have a rest. The search of a new job is not on my mind yet.»
