Peter Schmeichel: The current Russia team is the best I’ve seen

Former Denmark goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel believes the Russian national has the best group of players he has ever seen in the country.

«I was very impressed with the Russian performance. It is the best team out of the ones I’ve seen up to now. And I’ve been following your national team since the glory days of Rinat Dasaev,» the ex-Manchester United goalie admitted.

«You know what the key thing for your team is? The players have to forget about the result and just relax and enjoy themselves. That’s exactly how we won Euro ’92, when we found out only a few weeks before the tournament that we’d be participating. Russia are definitely the favourites in their group: Arshavin, Pavlyuchenko and Akinfeev are superb footballers. It was a good decision to bring in foreign experience into the side – first Hiddink, and now Advocaat,» he stated in an interview to Sovetsky sport.
