Hristo Stoichkov may take on sports director job at Rostov
Renown Bulgarian player Hristo Stoichkov, who has been working as a head coach lately, may be appointed as the sports director of the Russian club Rostov.
However, the reports about his appointment have been very contradictive. The only sure fact is that Stoichkov and Bulgarian agent Mircho Dimitrov have met Rostov general director Yury Belous at the team’s training camp in Austria. According to the Bulgarian newspaper Trud, Stoichkov was made a preliminary offer to work at the Russian club and agreed to discuss it further.
«We have been in friendly relations with the directors of Rostov for a long time already. I will be more than a coach there. We have agreed to meet in Sochi during a match [Round of 32 of the Russian Cup against Zhemchuzhina Sochi – Sports.ru] where I will have a conversation with the governor of the Rostov Oblast. I intend to sign a contract with Rostov», Stoichkov was quoted as saying by Trud.
However, the club’s general director Yury Belous has denied the reports that the famous Bulgarian had been practically appointed: «The information that has appeared in the media about Stoichkov’s arrival to Rostov is inaccurate. Even if I wanted to appoint someone, there is a certain procedure in place for that. Sports director is a position that requires approval by the board of directors.»
Speaking about his talks with Stoichkov, Belous hinted at the fact that there were multiple candidates for the position: «Hristo Stoichkov was not the only one to have visited us. We are not in talks with him,» he stated to Sovetsky Sport.
