Kulagin M. Junior - Update 2015

Since Mikhail Kulagin is one of the most promising young players in Russia and moreover this summer was signed by CSKA Moscow and invited to help national teams at Universiade 2015 and Euro Basket I try to follow his progress and keep everybody informed.

We can compare for instance only Treviso Euro Camp notes  2014, 2015 respectively.

2014 Treviso notes:

Offense: Pass selection+++ Some time genius like, Looks like he’d got eyes on his back.

Great no look and behind the back passes. His passes fit the situation! Sometimes the partners are not ready to get the ball from him.

3 pointers test – 19/25, Mid-range shots test – 18/25

He benefits much from change of pace drive. If his opponent (defender) keeps close, Mikhail can use elbow to space himself a bit more for a shot in the end.

Sometimes he is too much with the ball, which sticks to his hands too long. He can lose seconds and moments for passes or other offense development variants.

Defense:

HANDS DOWN!!! ATTENTION- ALARM!

While switching can handle the big guy/steals

If he loses position or first step, he can restore and beat the ball ( sideways)

2015 Treviso notes:

Offense:  Mikhail has a great CREATIVE pass of any kind by either hand. Inside Pass, Run and Jump pass…

He developed his orchestrating skills

Shots – Different arc angle – not good. There are some bad shot selections. Mikhail should not get used to shoot over somebody’s hand, this leads to technique damage and low percentage.

Not greedy, but still has problems with keeping the ball to himself.

Defense:

Good personal D playing

Better foul than score.

Runs back consistently.

Mikhail has skills to press the baller.
