What is Formula 1 ?

Formula One is a large-scale auto racing event, with races held all over the world. Like the FIFA World Cup and the Olympic Games, F1 is recognized as a major global sporting event. The F1 Korea Grand Prix, which will be held for the 4th time in 2013, is scheduled to be held for three days. Participants of this trip will be able to attend Practice 3 and Qualification as well as Race on Sunday. The qualifying lap is split into three sessions, through which the top 24 racers get assigned their grid positions. October 6 (Sunday) is the day of the big race.

The cars assemble on the starting grid in the order they qualified on the previous day, prepared to race 55 laps on a 5.6km circuit for a total race distance of 308 kilometers. Exhilarating tension rises as the race unfolds.

With the cars racing at speeds exceeding 200 kilometers per hour, nobody can tear their eyes away from the race. The top ten finishers will have points added to their overall championship rankings (25/18/15/12/10/8/6/4/2/1 points, respectively). The top three finishers are awarded on the winner’s podium, and their national flags are raised.

What to see and to do?

Sightseing opportunities in the area are rich and diverse: Yeongam is home to a number of cultural and natural attractions, including Wolchulsan National Park, the Historical Site of Dr. Wangin (Baekje Dynasty scholar), Gurim Maeul (2,200-year-old village), Dogapsa Temple on Wolchulsan Mountain, and a pottery museum.

Discover the rich marine life and and sailing ships history by visiting National Maritime Museum. Surprisingly there can be found a replica of famous Geobukseon, 'Turtle Ship', which was used by Korean 'admiral Nelson', Yi Sun Sin,  in the battle against Japanese invaders.

When visiting Mokpo don't forget to say 'hi' to dinosaurs skeletons occupying large but cozy halls of Mokpo Natural history musem. One of dino's footprints fossils is displayed here in a huge glass box too.

Furthermore, other major cities in Jeollanam-do Province such as Mokpo, Jindo, Suncheon, Boseong, and Gwangju are located within one to three hours by car from Yeongam.

Contrary to monotonous Seoul colored roofs give a special charm and flavor to provincial cities of Korea, making them heroes of a never-ending romantic story with a really vivid character.

Though South Cheolla is still not well-known destination, it has something for everyone.

White-sand cozy, clean and secluded beaches are among them - every Westerner's blue dream! Alas, beach season in Korea, for some odd reasons, is too short - it lasts officially only for two summer months of July-August. But - will open you secret - unoficially you can actually swim and enjoy the beaches whenever you want!

Those guests interested in historical past of Korea will be impressed with a monument of Yi Sun Shin admiral overlooking Yudalsan mountain in Mokpo. Admiral Yi Sun Sin is one of Korea’s infamous war heroes, who defeated the Japanese in a momentous naval battle more than 460 years ago.

More and more foreigners know, that South Cheolla is a birthplace of the first democratic South Korean president Kim Dae Jung. Nobel Peace Prize memorial named after him on Samhakdo island is portraying hard life and fight for justice of the first Korean national awarded with this honourable prize.

After Memorial excursion is finished curious travellers might be interested in getting some cute and sophisticated souvenirs made in traditional oriental style at the small shop on the first floor.

On Sept 7 group of VIPS, foreign media and diplomats visited above attractions and checked on the spot if it's really fun or not to explore South Cheolla and F1 track surroundings. On behalf of whole delegation should say, IT WAS MUCH FUN! Glad to present you the evidence - group photo with West sea in background. So, highly reccomend all of you to try it too!

Karting experience.

Except attending and watching F1 passionate racing fans usually engage in various activities including participating in amateur racing events, auto salons, trying karting and the like.

For those who'd like to try racing there is a karting track located right near the main F1 track within the Yeongam F1 Korea International Circuit  area. Driving kart is easy 'cus it has only 2 pedals - acceleration and breaks. Dont be shy and try it before you attend F1 Grand Prix! Tickets are sold in kart track ticketbox. Our group tried that too - see previous post here: https://www.sports.ru/automoto/blogs/505918.html

P.S. Good news! From Sept 1 till Oct 10th (for 40 days) guests with F1 tickets will be able to use 20-50% discounts or FREE admission to 52 local attractions located  in South Cheolla province.
