KHL president proposes joint competitions with NHL clubs
KHL president Alexander Medvedev announced that the league is considering ways of arranging matches between European and North-American hockey clubs.
«I intend to discuss the matter with the NHL commissioner Gary Bettman. Maybe it will be games between farm-clubs, or something different, but all we need is that the American players treat their European counterparts as equals, not with arrogance,» Medvedev told RIA Novosti.
«Games like that are essential for promoting ice-hockey in Europe. It is also no secret that hockey is not the most popular sport in the US, so perhaps they will also realise the necessity of intercontinental meetings. At the end of the day, if the don’t come to us, we are going to come to them,» he added.
