Cost of Zenit’s new stadium can grow from €0.8bn to €1bn
The new version of the design and estimate documentation of the stadium of Zenit St. Petersburg will be submitted to the State Expert Evaluation Department in two weeks. This was revealed at the meeting of Dmitry Kozak, Russian deputy prime minister, and Georgy Poltavchenko, governor of St. Petersburg.
The adjustments have been made in accordance with the requirements of FIFA and UEFA. Among those, the stadium’s capacity has grown from 62,000 to 69,000 seats, and a new dome was designed to ensure warmth inside the stadium, Kommersant reported.
According to the source, the improvements may result in the growth of the estimated construction costs from 33 to 40 billion roubles.
Still, Dmitry Kozak denied the possibility of the cost growth, while according to Georgy Poltavchenko, if the increase happens, it will be difficult for the city of St. Petersburg to fund the construction in full.
