Taeguk Ladies stumble in Korean derby.
22-07-2013
Korea Republic lost 2-1 against neighbours Korea DPR in their opening match of the EAFF East Asian Cup on Sunday.Kim Soo-Yun opened the scoring for the hosts after 26 minutes before quick-fire goals from Ho Un-Byol shortly after the half hour mark earned the North Koreans a deserved win.
A moment of brilliance saw Jeon Ga-Eul dribble through two defenders to pass the ball to Ji So-Yun, who broke into the centre of the area after exchanging a neat one-two with Cha Yun-Hee. Under pressure from the central rearguard, Ji's attempted shot was deflected into the path of Kim, who fired home from ten yards to give her side an unlikely lead. The visitors fought back almost immediately with Kim Un-Ha's point-blank header forcing Kim Jung-Mi into a fine save on 33 minutes. From the resulting corner, Ra Un-Sim sent a low shot from the edge of the area that rolled across a crowded goalmouth, where Kim Su-Gyong was twice denied at the far post. But Ho was on hand to latch on to the loose ball and slotted home from close range.
The defender-turned-forward did not stop there, as she headed home from a Ra Un-Sim cross from the right for her second goal of the evening. The Taeguk Ladies came out strong into the second half, with Ji testing Hong Myong-Hui with a powerful header off Jeon's corner five minutes after the interval.
The hosts piled the pressure as substitute Kim Na-Rae tried her luck from distance with a free-kick, before Ji curled another free-kick from the left that went just wide of the right post. Jeon then saw her effort from the right side of the box punched over the crossbar by Hong.Coach Yun Duk-Yeo brought on forward Park Hee-Young and then Yoo Young-A in the closing minute, but the visitors held firm to claim the hard-fought victory in Seoul.
