Ана Иванович:
I’m just about to fly to Manila for the start of the International Premier Tennis League (IPTL). I’m very excited to be taking part in this innovative new competition.
When I first heard rumours about the league I was a little sceptical, considering the scale of the event and so were quite a few others in the tennis industry…a year or so later and here we are, about to go on a four-city tour of Asia and the Middle East, with most of the world’s top male and female players taking part!
Mahesh Bhupathi obviously deserves a huge amount of credit for putting this together. He has proven a lot of people wrong, and it looks like the league will just get bigger and better in the coming years.
It’s certainly going to be intense, breathless tennis, and it’s going to be a thrill for us players, as well as the fans. I really can’t wait to step on court and feel the excitement, especially in Manila and Delhi, two cities I’ve never before visited.
I actually said to myself before the draft that I hope I sign for Delhi, because I’ve wanted to visit India for a long time now. It has to be the most prominent country that I have not yet visited, so I’m really happy to finally visit.
I know that there are some people who question players taking part in such events during the off-season, but the WTA have done a good job of extending the break for us – it’s almost 10 weeks before the end of the WTA Finals in Singapore and my first tournament of the year in Brisbane.
Singapore was a bit of a strange tournament for me. Overall, it was successful, because I won two matches and finished the year fifth in the world. But to go out in the group stage with two wins and a defeat was very tough to take. I was really disappointed.
Still, it was a great year overall. I achieved my goal of qualifying for Singapore and a top five finish was very pleasing, especially when I consider my Grand Slam results.
That’s something I am really hoping to improve in 2015 – more success at the majors. My coaches and I are trying to work out what went wrong this year, so we can achieve better Grand Slam results next year.
It’s been a long journey back to the top five – six years, in fact, which seems crazy. I’d like to thank you for your support, and for sticking by me. I always knew I would be back, although I’d be lying if I said there weren’t any doubts!
Now I want to build on this success and I’m already looking forward to January – but first the IPTL J
Love
Ana

I carefully planned being out of the country tomorrow to avoid a potential food coma because we know I’m capable. #Thanksgiving
