Fast cars, fundraisers, candy-coated autograph sessions - Maria Sharapova's keeping busy on the eve of the BNP Paribas WTA Finals Singapore presented by SC Global.SINGAPORE - Maria Sharapova, in town for the BNP Paribas WTA Finals Singapore presented by SC Global, has been keeping very busy ahead of the event, launching her premium candy line in Singapore, embracing the now with Evian and Tag Heuer and raising money for a worthwhile cause.
Wednesday night saw the launch of Sharapova's premium candy line, Sugarpova, at Robinsons The Heeren. She signed autographs, posed for pictures and met her fans at the event.
Thursday was an even busier day for the five-time Grand Slam champion, as she took part in "A Spontaneous Evening With Tennis Sensation Maria Sharapova", hosted by Evian and Tag Heuer. Over 100 guests attended the event, which carried the theme 'embrace the now'. And some of those guests really did embrace the now, playing a spontaneous game of table tennis with Sharapova herself, and others getting up and close with her to ask 'now or never' questions and take selfies with her.
Also on Thursday, Sharapova headed to the Porsche City Centre Singapore to help raise funds for the Straits Times School Pocket Money Fund, a community project to support children from low-income families through school. She autographed racquets, balls and a handbag, took pictures with guests and played mini-tennis. Porsche merchandise and tickets to the WTA Finals were also given away.
Together with Karsono Kwee, Executive Chairman of Eurokars Group, SGD 50,000 was donated by Sharapova and the gang, allowing the Porsche community to truly give back to the society.
"I am very happy to be here, and especially happy to be given the opportunity to team up for good cause while visiting Singapore," Sharapova, who won the WTA Finals in 2004, said. "Having the association to one of the best brands in the world like Porsche has been a privilege to me."
Sharapova is feeling good about her chances at the $6.5-million season-ender in Singapore.
"I'm excited to get the tournament underway," she said. "I'm really proud of my performance in 2014 thus far - winning both the French Open and the China Open this month were sweet victories.
"After my wins this year, I'm feeling really strong coming into Singapore."
And just how special is this event to the five-time Grand Slam champion? "I think all of the women players look forward to the WTA Finals. We're so often fixated on each individual tournament, the next match, the next serve. It's really important to take a step back and examine your performance throughout the season as a whole, and evaluate what went well and where improvement is needed."

"После моих побед в этом году я себя чувствую действительно сильной перед Сингапуром".
"Я думаю, что все теннисистки с нетерпением ждут финала WTA. Мы так часто зациклены на каждом отдельном турнире, следующем матче, следующей подаче. Это действительно важно – отойти на шаг назад и пересмотреть свою игру за сезон в целом, оценить, что было хорошо, а где требуется улучшение".
