Perfect Match: Maria Sharapova's Favorite Places in Paris
After mild illness sidelined Maria Sharapova from the Italian Open last week, just after she beat Sloane Stephens in the quarterfinals, the tennis superstar is determined to defend her champion title at the French Open starting May 26. “Last year was quite meaningful for me to win the Grand Slam, so I’m looking forward to hitting the court this week.” Only slightly less motivating to regain her full health might be the fact that Paris happens to be one of Sharapova’s favorite places on the planet. “The whole city is about juxtaposition—centuries-old architecture and romantic streets mix with cutting-edge fashion and style,” she says. “Parisian culture is like nothing else—they know how to enjoy life, but always seem to do so in their signature and effortlessly cool way.” With that in mind, Vogue asked the top athlete to reveal her five favorite spots, not including the tennis courts.
1. “The Rick Owens store at the Royal Palais. There’s something really cool about buying a Rick piece when in Paris.”rickowens.eu
2. “Scarlett near the Champs-Elysées is good for vintage finds. It’s a cluster, but has a nice selection of vintage Chanel.”10 Rue Clément Marot
3. “Breizh Café for lunch in the Marais. Their crepes are delicious and their presentations are picture-worthy.”breizhcafe.com
4. “Surface to Air is a beautiful store and they have a unique shoe selection.”surfacetoair.com
5. “Rose Bakery for an afternoon tea with a pastry. I really love the ambiance here.”46 Rue des Martyers
