Una vez dijo que sobre la tierra se sentía como una vaca sobre hielo. ¿Ya no patina?
(Se ríe). Cada vez voy jugando mejor en esta superficie y me siento más cómoda. Aunque nunca será la mejor para mí. Sólo pienso en disfrutar, de esta semana y de la próxima, previa a Roland Garros. Quiero mejorar, y Madrid es una buena oportunidad para llegar a París en la mejor forma posible.
¿Y se ve algún año ganando Roland Garros? ¿Completando el Grand Slam?
Me gustaría, pero está claro que es el más duro para mí al jugarse en tierra. He conseguido estar dos años en semifinales (2007 y 2011), lo que indica que no está tan lejos, que es posible. Yo voy a poner todo lo mejor de mí. No renuncio a ello.
Por cierto. ¿Le gusta esta tierra azul?
Bueno, es parte del show. Roland Garros, por su tradición, nunca cambiaría de color. A mí me gusta más el rojo de siempre.

¿Llegó a ver su carrera en peligro?
Siempre creí que podría volver. Lo que me daba miedo era no encontrar el nivel para ser top-ten. Ahora debo dar gracias por estar a tope. A mí me gusta la competición, estar varias horas en la pista dependiendo de ti misma. Es una sensación única.
Comparte el tenis con otras actividades como la publicidad, la moda Pero da la impresión de que ahora está más centrada en el juego. ¿Es así?
Tengo varios retos por delante ahora mismo, y sí me siento más centrada. Sigo siendo joven y tengo mucha energía dentro para dar. Bueno, es un ránking y ahí está (sonríe). No se puede controlar lo que opina la gente y yo nací con esta cara y este físico. Quiero pensar que me conocen sobre todo por el tenis. Si no ganara torneos...
