Sharapova through to the Miami final after beating Wozniacki
Russian star Maria Sharapova reached the fourth Miami final in her career on Thursday, rallying for a 4-6, 6-2, 6-4 victory over Caroline Wozniacki.
I could have easily, after losing a few straight games, let concentration down, I could have easily just gone down in the second set,» said Sharapova, cited by Eurosport.
«But I really stepped it up again. I went out there and started being aggressive. I didn’t stop after I put myself in a good position. I’m extremely pleased that I pulled it out today.»
Sharapova is in her second consecutive tournament final after losing in straight sets to Azarenka at Indian Wells.
However, she lost the final here on three previous occasions, so the Russian’s mind will be set on this title.
«It’s always disappointing to lose in the finals, but it’s part of the career,» Sharapova said of her near-misses in Miami. «I’m happy that I gave myself another chance to go out there and try to change that. It would just be meaningful to me because I have come to this tournament for so many years, ever since I was a young girl.»
«I have always just dreamt of playing on this court let alone being in the finals of it. It would just be really meaningful to me,» she added.
Sharapova will battle it out with Agnieszka Radwanska for the title, after the Polish fifth seed knocked out Marion Bartoli of France.
