Sharapova withdraws from the WTA Championships
Russian World No. 2 Maria Sharapova who lost the first two group stage matches of the WTA Championships in Istanbul, withdrew from the tournament because of an ankle injury, according to Tennis.com citing the Turkish press.
Yesterday Sharapova lost to Australia’s Samantha Stosur (7) 1:6, 5:7, and today to China’s Li Na (5) 6:7, 4:6. Marion Bartoli from France will play the last match of the preliminary round against Belarusian Victoria Azarenka (4) instead of the Russian.
