According to the information that has become available to Sports.ru, KHL champions Salavat Yulaev Ufa have appointed Sergey Mikhalyov as their new head coach.
Mikhalyov has already worked at Salavat, winning golden medals of the Russian championship in 2008. Recently he has been working at Lada Togliatti as sports director.
Mikhalyov will be assisted by Vener Safin, who has been working with him during the ‘golden’ season at Ufa, and Sergey Gersonsky.
The 63-year-old coach has signed a one-year contract. According to our information, Mikhalyov’s salary will be nearly a half of the salary of Vyacheslav Bykov, his predecessor at Salavat.
The official announcement of Mikhalyov’s appointment will be made after the ceremonial presentation of gold medals to Salavat Yulaev, which is scheduled for tomorrow, May 18.
