Russia will host 2016 IIHF World Hockey Championship
The 2016 World Hockey Championship will be held in Russia. This decision was made today at the IIHF Congress in Slovakia, according to a report by Interfax news agency.
Ukraine and Denmark were also candidates for hosting of the WC 2016, but in the end both countries have windrawn their bids.
According to the Russian bid, the World Championship will be held in Moscow and St.-Petersburg from April 29 to May 15. The final game is to be played in Moscow’s Megasport Arena, which has 13,577 seats. The second venue will be the Ice Palace in St. Petersburg, built for the 2000 IIHF World Championship and having a capacity of 12,300 seats.
According to IIHF official website, the tickets for group stage matches will cost from €10 to €40.
It’s worth noting that Russia already hosted world hockey championships in 2000 and 2007. In 2000 the Russian national team finished 11th and in 2007 it won bronze medals.
