Pittsburgh Penguins may bring Jaromir Jagr back to NHL, Avangard Omsk try to keep him

Pittsburgh Penguins may bring in their former star Jaromir Jagr whose contract with the KHL’s Avangard Omsk has expired recently.

According to Canadian Press, general manager of the Penguins Ray Shero plans to invite Jagr to a summer golf tournament in celebration of the 1991 Stanley Cup win after the 2011 World Championship quaterfinals between Czech Republic and the USA. As of now, Shero is already in Slovakia as a representative of the USA team.

«When you think of the Penguins, you think of Lemieux, Crosby, and Jagr. Three dynamic players, franchise-type players,» stated Shero.

«It’s too early for me, I don’t really know what I want to do next year,» Jagr said on Tuesday. «I don’t know where I want to play. Right now I just want to concentrate for this tournament, it’s not going to be more than one week. Then I have to make a decision.»

«My advantage is I don’t think my game was about speed. When you’re older, you’re losing the speed, but my game never was about speed. That’s why Teemu Selanne surprised me because his game was about speed and he still has it. And he’s still older than me.»

Meanwhile, Avangard Omsk general manager Anatoli Bardin said today the club intends to keep Jagr.

«I have just arrived to Bratislava. I’m going to meet Jagr on Tuesday. Avangard wants to keep him. We will discuss a new contract immediately after the World Championship», said Bardin as quoted by Sovetsky Sport.
