Dmitry Orlov: The Caps chose not to lose to the Rangers in order to be drawn against them
Washington Capitals defenseman Dmitry Orlov admitted in an interview to Sovetsky sport that his side refused to «pick» it’s next opponent in the NHL playoffs by deliberately losing their game against the New York Rangers.
«It didn’t even occur to us to «pick» our next opponent in this way. We didn’t deliberately lose t the Rangers to face them in the playoffs. Instead we beat them and waited for the outcome of the other matches. Had the Panthers lost in Carolina, we would have finished third in the Eastern Conference and been drawn against the Devils. As it happens, we will have to go to Boston.»
«How would you rate your individual performance this season?»
«The main things is that I got into the team and played over 60 games. I remember being called up from the affiliate for the game in Phoenix, like it was yesterday. I was so nervous that I couldn’t sleep. I’ve dreamt of the day since I was a kid.»
«I’ve never had such a long season in my career. Generally, I am quite pleased with it… Actually, it will be my first senior playoff,» the Russian star admitted.
