Daniel Briere: Bryzgalov is a good goaltender and he’ll be there when it matters

Philadelphia Flyers’ forward Daniel Briere has come to the defence of teammate and Russia goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov, whose form has been down in the past few weeks.

«We know he’s a good goaltender. It’s just a matter of him getting his confidence, his swagger back. Both have had their ups and downs, but we know they’re good goalies that can help us out and we will need that. There’s no way around it. We need both these guys to get going,» Briere told The Philadelphia Inquirer.

Goaltending has been a long-standing Achilles heel for the Flyers, who signed Bryzgalov to a nine-year, $51-million contract.

«People are quick to report how Bryz has struggled, but they forget he’s had good stretches. I remember a stretch of six or seven games where he didn’t give up more than two goals. That gets lost sometimes. I’m not worried. I think Bryz is a good goaltender and he’ll be there when it matters. That’s what we all believe,» added Bryzgalov’s teammate.
