Alexei Yashin’s agent: A return to NHL makes no sense for my client
Mark Gandler, the agent of former Ottawa Senators and SKA St. Petersburg forward Alexei Yashin, has spoken about the nature of his client’s injury, suffered during the 2011 KHL play-offs, and has stated Yashin would not return to the NHL.
It should be noted that Yashin’s contract with SKA expired recently.
«During the Gagarin Cup play-offs the other team’s defender fell on Yashin. It happened during the last shift and created a problem with knee ligaments. But when the pain eased, it turned out that everything was OK. No surgery was required.»
«Does Alexei want to stay at SKA? Or maybe there are any other KHL options?»
«I can’t say yet. We’ve been focused on the recovery first. Now that we’re convinced his knee is alright, we begin active negotiations.»
«Can Yashin return to the NHL?»
«In theory, it’s possible. In practice, it’s not. We do not seek it. Everything must have a rhythm. «Yashin in the NHL» – this story has no rhythm.»
«What do you mean?»
«Four years have passed since Alexei left the NHL. Now his return there has no sence. After all, Yashin is not a little kid. He has achieved everything he needed in the NHL. And now you expect him to say loudly: «I want to win the Stanley Cup»? What for? These words would be artificial,» stated Gandler to Sovetsky Sport.
