2012 KHL All-Star Game will be held in Riga

The All-Star Game of the Kontinental Hockey League in 2011-12 season will take place on January 21, 2012 in Riga, according to the KHL official website. The Latvian capital has been chosen due to its proximity to and accessibilty for European fans.

The League has already begun the preparations for the Game. The sale of tickets will start in the autumn, the format of the match will be also defined then.

The previous All-Star Game was held for the first time in 2009 on Moscow’s Red Square, when Jagr Team, comprised of foreign players, beat Yashin Team, comprised of Russians, 7:6. In 2010, Jagr Team also won in Minsk 11:8. In 2011, however, the All-Star Game was played in St. Petersburg between the Eastern and the Western Conference, the former being triumphant 18:16.
