Andrey Arshavin: I told Rooney not to score against us
Arsenal forward Andrey Arshavin has told about his impressions of the Premier League’s Day 35 game against Manchester United (1:0), has explained why he took part in his team’s defensive actions more than usual, and has revealed about what he had been talking to Wayne Rooney near the end of the game.
«Manchester United feel Chelsea breathe down their neck trying to snatch the first place. It was an important game for both teams.»
«We had territorial advantage. We controlled the ball well in the first half having made many dangerous crosses during those 45 minutes. We had pretty good moments on goal. Our opponents usually rely on dangerous counterattacks, but they were unable to use them in the first half. Perhaps, I would only note their moments after corner kicks.»
«In the second half the course of the game changed. United retained possession for longer periods of time. They were one goal down and had to push forward, therefore in the last ten minutes of the match we had to concentrate on the defence. I am happy that today we have managed to get a victory.»
«The game has been developing in such a way that I had payed more attention to the defensive actions. My sliding tackles? Well, yes, they were good today. Fans have appreciated them. I made those better than Tony Adams did – even in his best years.»
«What were we talking about with Wayne Rooney before a free kick in the last minutes? I have told him not to score any goals against us today. Like, you’d better score against some other team next time», said Arshavin according to his official website.
