Karpin officially resigns as Spartak head coach, will keep general director’s position
Spartak Moscow official website has confirmed Valery Karpin’s resignation as the team’s head coach. However, he will continue to act as the club’s general director. According to the aforementioned source, Karpin has been relieved from the post at his own request.
«Today we had a meeting of the board, which accepted my request for resignation,» said Karpin in his interview to Spartak official site.
«Will you stay as general director?»
«Yes, I will, though in this situation I was ready to leave both positions. But the board even didn’t consider this possibility.»
«What happens with the team now?»
«At the meeting of the board we decided to start the search of a new head coach. That’s what I will be doing as a general director.»
«Will you prepare the team for the next game against FC Krasnodar in the Russian Cup?»
«Yes, as we have no time to find and sign a contract with a new coach before that game. In all likelihood, the Krasnodar game will be my last in Spartak as a head coach.»
«And what if the new coach isn’t found even before the next game?»
«Then I’ll be coaching the team until this appointment eventually takes place.»
«Are you looking for a foreign or a domestic coach for Spartak?»
«Our candidates are both from Russia and from abroad.»
