Seydou Doumbia: Rubin offered me a better deal, but I signed for CSKA

CSKA Moscow striker Seydou Doumbia commented on his side’s defeat of rivals Sparak Moscow and revealed that he could have ended up in Kazan instead of Moscow after leaving Switzerland.

«It’s always great to win derby games. I’ve been looking forward to facing Spartak ever since I move to Russia. You always see lots of fans in the stands and winning gives you a confidence boost. I scored a goal and made an assist, but I also missed two big chances. I was unlucky, but that’s behind me now and I sense that my form is improving with every match. I just want CSKA to win the league, it doesn’t matter how many goals I score personally. I am sure that Zenit will lose points and it’s up to us to catch them,» said the Ivorian international.

«Before I agreed terms with CSKA I had an offer from Rubin. They offered me a bigger salary, but I felt that CSKA was the right club for me at the time. Of course, time will come one day to change my life and move on to another club and a bigger league,» Doumbia admitted, speaking to Bobsoccer.ru
