Vyacheslav Malafeev: I told Ionov to go away and leave the penalty to someone else

Zenit St. Petersburg goalkeeper Vyacheslav Malafeev told his official website about a curious incident that took place during his team’s 1-1 draw with Kuban Krasnodar.

Discussing his former Zenit partner Aleksey Ionov, who recently signed for Kuban and scored their only goal in today’s fixture, the Zenit Number 1 said:

«I told Ionov: go away, don’t take the penalty! Then I elaborated: if you score, you will get a lot of… love around here (laughs). If you miss, people will say you’re still a Zenit player deep inside. It was a no win situation for him,» the Russian goalie joked.
