Russian businessman becomes Bournemouth co-owner
Eddie Mitchell, president of AFC Bournemouth who currently play in England’s League One (third level of the nation’s football pyramid), revealed that the club now has a new investor, who bought a 50 percent share in the Cherries, the club’s official site reported.
Mitchell stated that the details about the transaction and the new owner of Bournemouth would be disclosed next week, but according to BBC the buyer is Russian businessman Maxim Dyomin.
A source stated that Dyomin owns real estate constructed by Mitchell’s company near Bournemouth and worth several million pounds.
Maxim Dyomin is also the co-owner of the Russia’s Zenit Bank and top manager for National Insurance Group consortium.
In 2010, Mitchell had already received an offer to sell the club to Russian businessmen Vladimir Antonov and Roman Dubov, but he refused the deal, according to BBC. Antonov and Dubov later became owners of Portsmouth.
The remaining 50 percent stake in AFC Bournemouth will be owned by Mitchell and his wife Brenda. The club is currently 21st in the League One.
