Four men injured as scaffolding collapses at Zenit stadium construction site
The scaffolding collapsed at the construction site of Zenit’s new stadium in St. Petersburg in the morning on Monday. As a result, four workers fell from a six meter height and were trapped in the rubble. Two citizens of Turkey and one citizen of Tajikistan suffered severe injuries. Another worker, a citizen of Uzbekistan, is now in a moderate condition and even refused to be hospitalized. The first aid was provided to the injured by other workers.
«There was an unintentional displacement of the reinforcement cage. Four workers fell down from the construction scaffold, got injured, and were sent to hospital», reads the statement of the St. Petersburg Department of the Ministry of Emergencies as quoted by RIA Novosti.
«At 8.45 as a result of the violation of safety rules during crane operation the reinforcement cage of the constructed bridge tumbled down. This caused injuries to four employes of the subcontractor,» Ilya Levin, general director of Transstroy-SPb, stated.
The works at Zenit stadium have been suspended until the end of the day in order to check up the safety of all constructions.
The stadium is due to be put into operation in November 2012.
