KHL: Radulov the Shootout Hero for CSKA in Win Over Riga
Defeat snaps Riga’s four-game winning streak at the start of the season, but the consolation point for taking the game to overtime lifts the KHL’s sole Latvian team to second in the Western Conference behind only Dynamo Moscow. CSKA is up to sixth.
The game was dominated by defense as CSKA outshot Riga 21-18. Miks Indrasis gave Riga the lead with 30 seconds remaining of the first period, hitting a fierce slapshot past goaltender Rastislav Stana.
On 7:06 of the second period, CSKA replied with a goal on a strong team move, Maxim Goncharov putting the puck in the net as Igor Grigorenko and Radulov claimed assists. After that, the goaltenders stayed strong and the game went to first overtime, then a shootout.
