Wladimir Klitchko: It would be interesting to me to fight Povetkin
Four-belt heavyweight title-holder Wladimir Klitchko confirmed he would like to fight the Russian boxer Alexander Povetkin at some point in the future.
«There were reports that you intend to hold a fight at a new arena, which is opening in New York’s Brighton Beach. There are rumours that your opponent would be either the WBA heavyweight champion Alexander Povetkin or the current WBC FECOMBOX Heavyweight Champion Chris Arreola. Is there any truth in that?»
«It is true in principle: we have received an offer from the venue, which will open in September. But the fight could take place closer towards the end of the year.»
«Considering the fight would take place in Brighton Beach [home to America’s biggest Russian-speaking community – Sports.ru], fighting the Russian would be more appealing for you?»
«To be honest, I am not prepared to pick an opponent right now. I just know that my next fight will be this summer against Tony Thompson.»
«But is Povetkin an interesting opponent for you?»
«Very interesting! He is still undefeated, an Olympic champion… I think it would interest myself, Alexander and the fans, too,» Klitchko told Sport-Express.
