Former WBA Heavyweight Champion Oleg Maskaev: I want to return to boxing
Former WBA Heavyweight Champion Oleg Maskaev in an interview to Sports.ru blogger Christian Yula insisted he intends to continue his professional boxing career.
Last time Maskaev came out on the ring was in December 2009, when he was knocked out by the Dominican Nagy Aguilera.
«Do you still plan to return to boxing?»
«I never left. That decision was announced by a group of people, which obviously wanted it to be true.»
«But why would you return, well in your forties, with a history of injuries and painful defeats?»
«Right now I am feeling great and I feel a fighting spirit rising within me – all thanks to a long rest. I really miss the sport and my age is the last thing I think about, despite people pointing it out to me at every turn. I will respond to the critics in the same way that Bernard Hopkins and Shane Mosley did – I aim to replicate their achievements. I know it’s going to be tough, but I am ready for challenges. Only the future will tell, whether it’s the right thing to do.»
