Ivan Tcherezov may miss whole season due to injury
Russian biathlete Ivan Tcherezov, who participated in the individual race today within the framework of the Russian summer biathlon championship, fell in the distance and suffered serious injuries.
The three-time world champion and bronze medalist of the 2009-10 World Cup was promptly taken to a local hospital. According to the preliminary information, Cherezov was diagnosed with fractures of his calf bone and shin bone, the official website of the Russian Biathletes’ Union (SBR) reported.
According to Zurab Ordzhonikidze, director of the Moscow Research Center for Medical Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine, the process of recovery from such an injury usually takes at least 7 or 8 months.
«A shin bone fracture always entails a calf bone fracture. If he has fractures of both bones, it means he veered across the road when going downhill and these will most likely be displaced fractures . The term of recovery after such injuries is very long – seven to eight months at least.
«The most important thing is to perform the surgery within a few hours before edema or fever develop. Psychological rehabilitation is very important. Our center has such a rehabilitation system in place, we will help him,» Ordzhonikidze said to RIA Novosti.
