Manu is the only player in history of basketball to have won a Euroleague title, an Olypic gold medal, and a NBA Championship ring. Ginobilil has solidified himself as the best Argentine basketball player, maybe the best Latin American and certainly one of the best international players to have played the game.
Strengths:
A gritty, clutch warrior on the court. A rare mix of instincts, length, and athleticism. Fearless driving the lane, draws a lot of contact, makes circus shots consistently, and hits his free throws. Also a superb distributor who can play the point, and keeps teams honest with a clutch perimeter stroke. A leader and a winner. Apart from his up-tempo and aggressive style of play, Ginóbili is known for his clutch play. Outstanding creating in the running game. Extremely quick player. Manu Ginobili is sensational at picking up steals. Ginobili is one of the NBA’s most accurate shooters in the final five minutes of games. It proves the idea of trusting the ball to him for the final decisive shot.
Weaknesses:
Wears down regularly, in part due to his physical, high-intensity style (making him best-suited at times to a sixth man role). Makes his share of turnovers. Gets fouled often. Average handle. Due to his temperament and behaviour becomes smater ore e
Ginobili made his pro debut in Argentina with Andino in 1995-96 and played for Argentina’s Estudiantes Bahia Blanca in 1996-97 and 1997-98. Then he mpver to Italy and spent two seasons – 1998-99 and 1999-2000 with Basket Viola Reggio Calabria before joining Virtus Bologna for the 2000-01 season. That year, he was the 2001 Euroleague Finals MVP and was named the Italian League MVP in both 2000-01 and 2001-02. Ginobili was also named to the Italian All-Star Game for three straight seasons (the league did not hold All-Star Game in 01-02). He has been a member of the Argentine national Team since 1998 and was named to All-Tournament Team at the 2002 World Championship, leading Argentina to a silver medal over the United States.
SEASON AVERAGES
One of the best all-round players in the league at his position. Easily the biggest steal of all-time in the draft considering where he was selected-57th! Decent build for his position. Really gets the most out of his athleticism. Has a nice first step, superb fluidity and surprising leaping ability. Possesses a great offensive skills set. Can score in a number of different ways thanks to his terrific body control. No one has moves quite like Ginobili; long chaotic criss-crossing strides to the basket, arm outstretched for a finger roll or a layup.
Ginobili is known for his up-tempo style of play, his passing, and behind-the-back moves when attacking the basket. He also makes dunks with either hand, taking advantage of his first step. His modus operandi is the source of much consternation for opponents ( for example, lowering his head while driving toward the basket, and willingness to draw charges on defense), among the most vocal of whom have been coach George Karl of the Denver Nuggets. These critics frequently accuse Ginobili of “flopping”, or exaggerating the amount of contact that occurs when he is playing defense. This technique is common in soccer ( where it is known as diving), a sport Ginobili played when he was younger…
Spurs: where friendship happens
Ginobili is probably the flashest foreign-born player in the league, often wrapping the ball behind his back or trying daring cross-court bounce passes. But he remains oddly underappreciated because of his limited minutes, playing just 27 per game this season. That′s kept his scoring average in the teens and, except for one season, kept Ginobili off the All-Star team. He is equally efficient both off the dribble and off the pass, going left and right and from any spot of the floor. May it would be more practical and interesting for Manu to play for another NBA team next years, for the ones that really fight for the title unless SA executes extraordinary off season job and sign new competitive inspiring partners.
Ginobili is a great self-motivator and is ready to fight even is the caches to win have gone. Ginobili was the NBA’s most accurate shooter in the final five minutes of undecided games in 2007-2008. Funny we don’t see or hear much about buzzer-beaters from the Argentinian. I think that says a lot about how he and the Spurs can close out games. Manu was followed by Canadian Steve Nash. Amare Stoudemire was third (most likely buoyed by Steve Nash’s ability to penetrate), Yao Ming was fourth, and surprisingly, Andre Iguodala was in fifth.
His agent Herb Rudoy has told the San Antonio Express-News his client would consider a contract extension before season′s end. Ginobili can become a free agent July 1, and given his monstrous play of late, there will be no shortage of suitors wanting to pry him from the Alamo City.
Ginobili′s departure would crush Tim Duncan′s chances of winning another title before he calls it quits. Fans might storm the AT&T Center with torches, pitchforks, and axes in protest.
His future remains uncertain, but this fact does not: Gregg Popovich does not want to lose the player he calls "the greatest competitor I′ve ever coached."
Ginobili, for his part, does not want to learn a new system or play with any other power forward and point guard. Duncan and Tony Parker do not want to play with another shooting guard.
Odds are he′ll return with a higher price tag. Even then, he will rank as one of the league′s best bargains.
The Spurs give him an opportunity no other contender could. Even at his age if 34, alongside a Parker in his prime, he rules winning time.
Не assisted on Robert Horry′s go-ahead three in Game Five of the 2005 NBA Finals. When Duncan nailed a rare three-pointer to send a playoff opener against the Suns into double overtime, Manu threw the perfect pass that allowed the post behemoth to set his feet and shoot in rhythm. Ginobili scored the final eight points in the second overtime of that series defining win.
The Spurs made him an NBA star, and he in turn solidified a dynasty. Hip and groin injuries had also sidelined him. Manu often starts his games from the bench and then can played a lot more that starting five players. Looks like he has never-ending energy reserve and he can still overrun many athletes of the league despite his age.
Spurs Use The Pick And Roll To Get ANY Big Three Late. It begins with Manu with the ball on the arc getting two pin down screens, one from Duncan and one from Jefferson, on the opposite side of the basketball. After setting his screen, Richard Jefferson backpedals to his home in the corner, behind the three point line. Meanwhile Tim Duncan comes over to Ginobili as he makes the catch to run a pick and roll. As Ginobili comes off of the screen, Duncan’s man shows hard, allowing for Duncan to roll free in the paint to the rim. This forces Jefferson’s man, (anyone in a hurry to restore his position)to leave Jeffreson and step up to stop Duncan. Jefferson is able to rise up and knock down the jumper as the defender is late contesting the shot.
This play is a perfect example of the Spurs’ new offensive strategy. In years past, the Ginobili-Duncan pick and roll was designed to try and free up Ginobili coming off of the screen or Duncan on the roll. This year, they are looking for the three off of plays like this. It wouldn’t surprise me one bit if coach Popovich ran this play with the hopes of getting an open three pointer in the corner.
On my pinion the coaching staff should look for more interesting partners to play with Manu, the young talents, even somebody maybe to compete with him for the rotation. GM R.C. Buford might be sandbagged by an exorbitant payroll before the season starts. He cannot afford, however, to let Ginobili leave.
