Kirilenko hails the formation of Eastern European League
CSKA Moscow small forward Andrey Kirilenko expressed his support for the merging of the Russian PBL and VTB United League into a joint Eastern European league. According to the former Utah Jazz player, this move would eliminate a lot of confusion among fans and players.
«It’s good there will be a united league. There will be no more of the confusion that arose, when it wasn’t clear which competition the team was playing in. For the players it makes things easier, because we won’t have to play under different rules or use differently sized basketballs,» said the Russian international.
«I am sure the games will still be exciting. The Eastern European league will have some strong teams from Latvia and Lithuania. Sparring against such sides would be a good challenge for any Russian side».
Kirilenko made these comments in the light of the reports that Russian basketball authorities had agreed to allow the Eastern European VTB United League to determine the Russian national champions, a move that would make the VTB League a major European force.
