Spartak St. Petersburg point guard Patrick Beverley wants to play for Russia

The American point guard of Spartak St. Petersburg intends to play for the Russian national team at the Olympics in London in 2012.

«I’m sure that the Russian national team will take part in the Olympics, and I want to help them play in London. I hope to acquire a Russian passport as quickly as possible and I want to play for the Russian national team.

«If I am invited to the Russian national team I will join it immediately. Those are my plans, I’m absolutely sure about that. It’s a great honor for me to play for Russia. I believe it will happen in the nearest future. My compatriot Holden has already played for them. I like St. Petersburg a lot, I have already come to love Russia, people are very kind and friendly here. I want to make them happy by my performances in the national team. The most important thing now is to acquire the citizenship,» Beverley stated in his interview with RIA Novosti.
