Roberto Carlos: That fan offended not only me, but Russian football in general
Anzhi midfielder Roberto Carlos has commented on the incident when a banana was thrown at him from the stands of Metallurg Stadium in Samara during the Matchday 15 game of the Russian Premier League against Krylia Sovetov (3:0).
«I am indignant at the disgusting behaviour of the fan who actually offended not only me, but also all the players present on the pitch. And not only the players – the whole Russian football. I hope the Russian Federation, UEFA and FIFA will come in for an adequate reaction to this disgusting incident. Such things shouldn’t be tolerated in civilised countries!» the Brazilian said in an interview with Sport-Express.
«Was your decision to leave the field a spontaneous one?»
«No, I made it on purpose because I felt very disappointed and I didn’t have any desire to continue the game. Believe me, I would do the same thing at any score.»
«What gesture did you make to the stands leaving the field?»
«I raised two fingers, reminding that it’s already the second similar case during the short period of time that I play in Russia. It also hurts me very much because the overwhelming majority of people in your country are warm and benevolent to players, including the foreigners. But, unfortunately, there are also such idiots…»
«Will you play in the next match?»
«Of course. I should think about the team and its fans first of all.»
